Yes! I switched to Mac systems the moment I was out of college. Oncce you realize how cluttered the Windows operating system is, you won't want to go back. I can't personally vouch for desktops (though my friends in publishing swear by them)...I just love my ibook.

The new Windows Vista is practically Mac anyway, in terms of design, but you can communicate with more people more clearly with WIndows (ie Office files you send via e-mail - and the e-mails themselves - don't get garbled the way they do when they come from Mac users...this has been a repeated experience as an online editor dealing with messages and files sent from mac computers,)
Of course, I did used to work for the evil empire...

without hesitation.

as to communicating more clearly, if you've got half a clue (i.e. how and why there are different types of files), you will never have any problems.

macs gots no corn syrup.

My first Mac was an SE 30. Since then, I've used nothing but Macs and I love 'em.

I use Windows-based computers at work and Macs at home. I can't stand to work on my office computer and can't wait to get home to my Macs.

I have an 20" iMac and a Macbook Pro 17 and am probably "over computered" but I've managed to find uses for both. Because I have problems with my eyesight, bigger really is better for me, and I prefer to work on the iMac, but the Macbook is a very stable platform and a real screamer, speed-wise.

The 24" iMac? Wow! If I didn't have kids to feed...

Good luck!

Speaking as a writer, graphic designer and photographer—GET A MAC! I'm a long-time mac user, manage a mac network at work, and teach design and digital photography on PCs.

I hate the PCs.

My favorite things about Macs: Elegant design (hard and software), far fewer virus&worm worries, stable, sturdy, pretty. plus--fewer entanglements with the evil empire known as gatesworld.

I gave up my desktop a few years ago in favor of an iBook and I've never looked back. But I buy iMacs for work (newspaper) and they are the bomb.

I am a recent convert to the World of Mac and I most whole-heartedly recommend that you do purchase an iMac....or better yet, a MacBook Pro. I purchased my MacBook Pro nine months ago and LOVE it!

Jeannine said that "the new Windows Vista is practically Mac anyway, in terms of design..." Mac is the most stable operating system environment in the world. This is the reason to buy a Mac...not because of its pretty design.

Jeannine also claims that with a Wintel machine you can "communicate with more people more clearly with Windows (i.e. Office files you send via email)." This is certainly not true. I have Office for Mac installed on my MacBook Pro and have never experienced any trouble "communicating with...people."

Enjoy computing...get a Mac!
