In brightest day, in blackest night

The more I look at the cover for Notes, the more I love it. Which is not to say I wasn't immediately taken with it: I was. It was just strange, almost an out of body, or out of book, experience to see it, at long last, right there on my screen. Not quite physical evidence of the book's actuality, but near enough.

Strange to see my name on the cover of another book. I'm not even blase with the first one yet.

I love the blur added to my name, the doubling effect.

And, of course, that Godzilla appears is an almost unimaginable perfection.

Though last fall I did imagine something quite similar. It was during Meacham, shopping in a funky store across the river with Betsy. The shop's owner loved vintage toy robots, the old blocky metal ones, and I thought then something along those lines, sparse but bright, might be neat. But I never mentioned it to anyone besides Betsy.

It's amazing how close the University of Nebraska Press design people came to that original idea, never even expressed, and how much better they made it.

I want to make it into a t-shirt.
